Sisters wish for their brother’s good health, long life, and prosperity after applying Tilak. Similarly, a brother gives his sister a gift as an omen and swears to protect her from all ills.

On Bhai Dooj, married women call their brothers home, apply tilak to them, and shower them with love. It is important to brothers and sisters to sit and dine together during this celebration. It is said that if brothers and sisters sit and dine together on the banks of the Yamuna on Bhaiya Dooj, it is exceedingly auspicious.

Bhai Dooj 2023 Puja Rituals

The holidays celebrated in Sanatan Dharma are just as important as the rites done on each one. In this order, we will show you how to properly perform your brother’s Tilak on Bhai Dooj 2023.

  • Sisters should initially prepare the Aarti thali for their brother’s tilak on the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj.
  • In this plate, keep the vital ingredients for puja, such as sandalwood, vermilion, kumkum, fruits, flowers, betel nut, coconut, and sweets.
  • Make a square with the rice mixture before applying Tilak to your brother.
  • Make the brother sit on this rice square, and the sisters apply Tilak on their brother at the appropriate time.
  • After doing Tilak, offer the brother betel leaves, betel nut, batasha, and flowers, among other things, and feed him sweets before performing his aarti.
  • Following this, sisters pray for their brother’s long life and brothers swear to protect him.

Avoid These Mistakes On Bhai Dooj

To ensure that your brother and sister get the full benefit of the Bhai Dooj Puja in 2023, avoid the following actions on Bhai Dooj:

  • Before applying Tilak to the brother, the sister should not eat anything. In other words, you should refrain from drinking water until you apply Tilak on your brother.
  • On Bhai Dooj, do not choose a direction for your brother’s Tilak. Remember that the brother should face north or north-west, while the sister should face north-east or east.
  • A brother should avoid lying to his sister at this festival because doing so may enrage Dharmaraj.
  • On the day of Bhaiya Dooj, brothers should avoid eating food at home. If the sister is married, go to her house and eat; if this is not possible, eat the food while sitting near the cow.
  • On Bhai Dooj, one should refrain from consuming non-vegetarian food, intoxicants, and so on.

Let us now discuss the steps that will be taken for Bhai Dooj 2023.

Bhai Dooj 2023 Folklore

Every holiday has a tale in Sanatan Dharma, and Bhai Dooj is no exception.

The following is the mythological account about Bhai Dooj as stated in the scriptures: Yamraj, the god of death, went to his sister’s residence on Bhai Dooj to meet her. Since then, the tradition of celebrating Bhai Dooj on the second day of Shukla Paksha in Kartik month has continued.

Yama and Yami are siblings whose father is the Sun God. In reality, because Yamraj was so preoccupied with his profession, he repeatedly declined Yamuna ji’s invitation to dine at her home. When Yamraj arrived at his sister’s residence to visit her, sister Yamuna did Aarti by applying tilak on Yamraj’s forehead, and with affection, Yamuna ji presented food to Yamdev and wished him a good and fruitful life. When Yamraj asked for his sister Yamuna for a blessing, Yamuna ji said, “From now on, you come to my house every year on this day and on this date, and any sister who does Tilak of her brother would have to fear you.” Will achieve liberation. Yamraj was overjoyed to hear sister Yamuna’s comments and bestowed this blessing onto her. The Bhai Dooj tradition began at that period.

Bhai Dooj Other Story

The second most popular Bhai Dooj story is about Lord Krishna. According to this mythology, Lord Krishna returned to Dwarka after defeating the demon Narakasura during the Bhai Dooj festival in the Dwapar Yuga. Sister Subhadra had lit thousands of lights and welcomed Lord Krishna with sweets, fruits, and flowers to celebrate his arrival. Sister Subhadra put a Tilak to Lord Krishna’s forehead and wished him a long life. On the occasion of Bhai Dooj, all the sisters apply Tilak to the foreheads of their brothers, and the brothers give them gifts.
