Vasant Panchami and Saraswati Puja

Basant Panchami, also as Vasant Panchami, is the birthday of Goddess Saraswati. Vasant Panchami is a day when students, educational institutions, and anyone engaging in any form of creative endeavour can seek Goddess Saraswati’s blessings.

Saraswati is a Hindu goddess who is associated with creation, knowledge, music, art, wisdom, and education. The auspicious date of Basant Panchami is considered favourable in many parts of the Indian subcontinent for children to begin their schooling. To appease goddess Saraswati and express appreciation, people execute numerous rituals and pujas at their homes, temples, and places of learning. If you’re planning a Saraswati Puja, keep in mind that the festival’s colour scheme and theme are both yellow. You can never go wrong by offering Saraswati yellow saris, draperies, sweets, and flowers.

Why is Yellow Colour favoured on Basant Panchami?

Why do people emphasise the significance of wearing yellow on the day of Goddess Saraswati’s adoration, Basant Panchami? In reality, there are two major reasons behind this. The first reason is that the cold gradually dissipates after Basant Panchami, and the temperature becomes very comfortable at this time. It is neither too cool nor too hot at this time. The atmosphere is very beautiful. Trees, plants, leaves, flowers, and buds all begin to bloom at this time, and mustard crops begin to wave in the hamlet. On this day, the significance of the colour yellow is discussed in relation to all of these factors.

Aside from that, another legend claims that the sun turns Uttarayan on the day of Basant Panchami. The sun’s rays are thought to represent the concept that, like the sun, a person’s life should become serious and passionate. On the day of Basant Panchami, yellow-coloured clothing is worn in honour of these two faiths.
