The Story Of Apara Ekadashi 2023 Fast

As per Hindu mythology, King Yudhishthira once asked Lord Krishna about the significance of Apara Ekadashi. Lord Krishna explained that observing a fast on this day helps an individual attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death. He further added that fasting on this day can also bring immense benefits to one’s ancestors, thereby helping them attain salvation.

According to a mythological story, there was a king named Mahidhwaj in a kingdom. His younger brother, Vajradhwaj was a wicked person who committed immoral acts and hated his elder brother. He conspired against Mahidhwaj and killed him. Mahidhwaj’s ghost started haunting a peepal tree after his death, and Vajradhwaj buried his body under that tree. One day, a sage named Dhoomy saw the ghost and learned about the whole story through his spiritual powers.

The sage advised the ghost to observe the Apara Ekadashi fast and pray to Lord Vishnu to attain salvation. The ghost followed the sage’s advice, observed the fast and prayed to Lord Vishnu. He was finally able to achieve salvation and go to the heavenly abode. As a result of observing the Apara Ekadashi fast, the king also received blessings from Lord Vishnu and was freed from the cycle of birth and death.
