Importance of Amalaki Ekadashi
The Ekadashi that falls on the Shukla Paksha of Phalguna month is celebrated as Amalaki Ekadashi. Amalaki means Aamla, which is considered important according to scriptures and Ayurveda. As per the beliefs, when Lord Vishnu incarnated Lord Brahma during the creation of the universe, the Aamla tree also originated in the same moment. It is said that God resides in every part of the Aamla tree, and that is why it is also known as Adi Tree.
According to Padma Purana, a native attains the virtue equal to hundreds of Pilgrimages and the fruits of all the sacrifices (Yagya) by observing a fast on Amalaki Ekadashi. Such a devotee also attains salvation. On this day, people worship the Aamla tree and observe a fast.

Aamla or gooseberry has special significance on Amalaki Ekadashi. Therefore, it is considered auspicious to use Aamla in every task, from performing Puja to cooking food, on this day. Let us find out the Puja Vidhi for Amalaki Ekadashi.
• Wake up early in the morning and take a vow of fasting while meditating on Lord Vishnu.
• Then take a holy bath.
• After taking a bath, worship Lord Vishnu, light a Ghee lamp, and recite Vishnu Sahatranama.
• After that, place an urn containing Navaratna under the Aamla tree. If the Aamla tree is not available around you, then you can offer Prasad in the form of Aamla to Lord Vishnu.
• If you find an Aamla tree, worship it using incense, lamp, sandalwood, Roli, flower, Akshat, etc., and then feed the poor, needy, or Brahmin under the same tree.
• On the next day of the fast, i.e. the Dwadashi, take a bath and worship Lord Vishnu. After that, donate Kalash, clothes, Aamla etc., to the needy and Brahmin. You can break your fast after this.

Amalaki Ekadashi Vrat Katha
According to the legends, it is said that in ancient times, during the reign of King Chitrasen, people had great faith in the Ekadashi fast. All the people used to observe a fast with devotion on the day of Ekadashi. King Chitrasen also used to give utmost importance to Amalaki Ekadashi.
One day, King Chitrasen went out hunting deep into the forests. There he was surrendered by some bandits who started attacking him. To everyone’s surprise, the bandits’ attacks had no impact on the king as when they tried to use any weapon on him, it turned into flowers. The number of bandits started to increase gradually, and the king fainted and fell on the ground due to the attacks. A divine power emerged from the king’s body that killed all the bandits then entered back into his body after that.
When the king came back to his senses, he found dead bandits around him. He was stunned as to who did this and how did it happen? Suddenly he heard an Aakashvani “Oh King! All these evil people are killed due to the effect of your fasting on Amalaki Ekadashi. Because of this fast, the Vaishnavi power of Amalaki Ekadashi emerged from inside your body and put an end to these sinners.”
This made the king extremely happy, and he told everything to his subjects on returning to his kingdom. This incident increased the faith of the people and the king on Amalaki Ekadashi even more. After this, the king promoted Amalaki Ekadashi even outside his kingdom so everyone could reap its benefits.
